It is important to prepare for a shift and to support your safety going into the care location.
Preparing for a Visit
- Read the Care Recipients' profile for your schedule, any special directions, parking or entrance instructions.
- Request that walkways are cleared of ice and snow if needed. Bring your smartphone to look up details about the care location and client care plan. Give 24 hours or more notice to your Care Seeker if you need to cancel or reschedule your visit. Ask the Care Seeker to have an area available for hand washing with liquid soap and paper towels. Before you arrive, ask for any pets to be secured unless you have a work environment preference for pets, for any firearms or weapons be locked and stored in accordance to law. Bring personal protection equipment (e.g., gloves, mask, goggles, gown) just in case they aren’t available.
- When at the care location: Practice hand hygiene and wear protective equipment to protect you and the Care Recipient. If you are unsure, contact the Care Recipient about any questions you may have.
