Paying and communicating through WeBookCare is essential to ensuring a safe and secure experience, which is why we made it a requirement in our Terms of Use. Additionally, when a payment takes place outside of WeBookCare, we won't have a record of it. That means your job won’t be recognizable by our 24/7 support team. Accepting or making payments outside of WeBookCare could also lead to account suspensions for both the Health Care Worker and the Care Seeker. So, if someone asks to pay you directly—whether that’s via check, cash, wire transfer, or a payment website other than WeBookCare—say no and remind them that paying through WeBookCare keeps everyone’s information secure. If a Health Care Worker insists on receiving payment outside of WeBookCare, you can report the Health Care Worker right from their Profile. Simply select Report Health Care Worker.
Scams
This sort of thing doesn’t happen often, but it’s always a good idea to be prepared. Practicing a few simple safety measures can only do great things for your home care service.
Types of scams
Never share your email address before a booking is accepted or transfer funds outside the WeBookCare system, and always carefully examine emails claiming to be from WeBookCare. Examples of common scams include:
- Advance Fee Scam: Someone offers to pay you or give you something if you pay through a service outside of WeBookCare.
- Phishing Scam: Someone sends an email or link that looks like it's from WeBookCare or another trusted site. These messages are designed to trick you into providing confidential information such as passwords or other email addresses. Phishing messages may contain malware, which is malicious software that gains access to your computer to gather your personal information, including passwords.
- Health Care Scam: Someone offers you a great deal on a health care service if you pay or send a deposit using a wire transfer. After receiving your money, they don’t give you the service or product they advertised.
- Overpayment Scam: Someone offers to pay a Health Care Worker more than the price of the booking and then asks the Caregiver to give them cash to cover the difference.
- Third-party Booking Scam: Someone offers to book and pay for a WeBookCare Caregiver through their third-party website or service, often claiming to have a WeBookCare coupon or discount. These bookings are typically paid for using stolen credit cards.
